Holistic medicine is concerned with interactions throughout the body. Holistic dentists use knowledge and findings from other medical fields to help improve their patients’ general constitution.
At the core of holistic dentistry is the recognition that many acute and chronic conditions originate in the mouth. Disorders of the jaw and teeth can lead to serious health issues and a problem with one tooth can have ramifications for other areas of the body.
Current research findings published by the International Society for Holistic Dentistry (known in German as the GZM) substantiate the links between oral health and overall wellbeing: parodontitis can increase the risk of circulatory diseases, stroke and premature labor.
- Headaches and pains in the back and neck, as well as aural conditions such as tinnitus can have their root in a malfunctioning jaw joint.
- Intolerance to the materials used in dental restoration materials can cause symptoms such as tiredness, allergies or sustained depression of the immune system.
- Chronic inflammation of the teeth and jaw can have a significant impact on performance.
We look beyond our own immediate field of expertise
As holistic dental practitioners we look at far more than just the patient’s mouth and we take account of his or her overall health and condition when making a diagnosis and initiating treatment. Our mission is to increase our patients’ general health by improving the condition of their teeth. To this end we use the standard methods and treatments of modern conventional medicine and supplement these with others from the fields of naturopathy and biological medicine.
So that we can offer our patients the benefit of extensive medical expertise we also work closely with therapists and doctors from other medical fields: immunologists, pain specialists, psychologists, orthopedists, neurologists, ENT specialists etc.
